Are You Making The Most Of YouTube’s Sharing Features In Recruitment?
Posted on 06. Feb, 2012 by admin.
YouTube Is Also A Social Network!
Six hours of video per minute were uploaded to YouTube in 2007. By 2010 the figure had increased to thirty five hours per minute. By the end of 2011 the figure had risen to sixty hours per minute.
As a result, YouTube is now streaming four billion online videos every day (up from three billion every day in May 2011) which is the equivalent of more than half the world’s population watching a video every single day!
The above stats are certainly impressive but are you making the most of all the YouTube features when recruiting for your company?
How To Make The Most Of YouTube’s Sharing Features

YouTube is more than just a place where you can get videos hosted for free and watch funny videos. In a relatively short period of time (five years) it has grown to be the largest online video sharing site in the world (with 800 million unique visitors per month) and the second largest search engine.
However, few people tend to think of YouTube as a social network and are therefore missing out on its full potential.
Even if you are not currently producing or outsourcing your own video content I would encourage you to set up your own YouTube channel. It is free to register but like other social networking sites once your username is taken it can’t be registered again.
Once you have registered your YouTube channel you can start to upload your own videos. However, rather than just publishing your videos you should consider maximising the reach of each video as well.
For example, wouldn’t it be great if you could let all the people connected to you on Facebook and Twitter know that you have just uploaded a video? Well you can, and YouTube will do it for you by automatically sharing your activities.

Simply login to your YouTube account, go to “Account Settings” and then choose “Sharing”. Then select which social network accounts you want to automatically connect to (highlighted above in yellow.) Once selected, YouTube will automatically notify your connections when a new video is added to your channel.
As well as connecting your accounts as shown above you can encourage people to “subscribe” to your YouTube channel. That way they will also be automatically notified by YouTube when you upload a new video.
What If You Don’t Have Any Videos?
If you don’t have any videos of your own you can still have videos appear on your own YouTube channel by creating a playlist. A playlist is a collection of videos (made by someone else) that can be watched on YouTube via your own YouTube channel.
For example, on my YouTube Channel for the Mobile & Video in Recruitment Conference in November 2011 I created a playlist called “mobile recruiting” and in the playlist I put videos (not made by me) that I thought were relevant and would be of interest to my viewers.
You can view my YouTube channel by clicking here or on the image below:
The good news is that you can have as many playlists as you like which means you can provide a YouTube channel with interesting videos for your visitors, without having to make the videos yourself!

Posted on 18. Nov, 2011 by admin.

Yesterday saw the 2011 Mobile & Video in Recruitment Conference take place in London.
For the second year in a row there was a mixture of speakers offering insights into the word of mobile & video and how to best apply it in recrutiment.
And once again the feedback was that it was a great success:
- “Very good, great content”
- “Well worth attending, lots of great speakers and excellent information”
- “Very well structured, covered a variety of topics”
- “Well run, varied content, knowledgeable speakers”
- “Learnt a lot, some really good advice”
I will be publishing more posts over the coming days about the conference and there will also be special Recruitment Buzz edition for the conference provided by Keith Robinson and Martin Couzins.
